A repair call fixes something that has already failed. A tune-up is the visit that stops you needing one: we inspect, adjust, lubricate and balance the whole system while it is still working, and flag the parts that are wearing before they let go. If you call us because the door has stopped, that is a repair. If you call us because it is still fine and you would like it to stay that way, that is a tune-up.

You can, and doing it once or twice a year between visits genuinely helps. Use a garage door lubricant or a white lithium grease on the rollers, hinges, bearings and springs. Avoid WD-40, which is a solvent rather than a lubricant and strips out what is already there, and never grease the inside of the tracks, which are meant to stay dry so the rollers roll rather than slide.

It helps, though it will not change the cycle rating the spring was built with. What a tune-up does is remove the extra work: a door that is out of balance, dragging on stiff rollers or fighting a misaligned track makes the spring and the opener do more than they were sized for. Keep the door moving freely and the hardware wears at the rate it should.

Yes, and it is the cheapest time to start. A newer door has nothing wrong with it, which is exactly the point: keeping the hardware adjusted and lubricated from the beginning is what gets you the full life out of it. Our coastal air is hard on springs, cables and fasteners, and corrosion starts long before anything is audibly wrong.
