Not automatically. If your opener is sound and the new door is a similar weight, it will usually carry over fine. Two things change that: a heavier insulated door can be more than an older opener was built to lift, and if the existing unit is already near the end of its life it is cheaper to do both at once than to come back. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than selling you an opener by default.

On the Island you are insulating against damp and wind more than deep cold. For an unheated detached garage, a modest insulated door is plenty and mostly buys you a quieter, less drafty space. If the garage is attached, heated, or you work in it, the step up is worth paying for and you will notice it. We will talk through what the garage is actually used for before recommending a number.

Yes. Removal and disposal of the old door, tracks and hardware is part of the job, and we leave the garage swept. You do not need to arrange a bin or make a dump run. If any of the old hardware is worth keeping, tell us and we will set it aside instead.

Often, yes, and it is worth asking before you choose. Matching an existing door depends on whether that model and colour are still made. Where an exact match is not available we will show you the closest option and be honest about whether the difference will be noticeable from the street. On a two-door frontage, sometimes replacing both is the better looking answer.

Yes. Insulated glass and frosted or obscured glazing both exist, so you can get daylight into the garage without a clear view in or a cold spot across the top of the door. Window placement matters too: a row of lites set high, or stacked down one side, lets light in without putting your contents on display.

It should not. Removing an old door and fitting new track does mean working right at the opening, so we take the old hardware out carefully rather than tearing it off. If the existing trim is rotten or the jamb has been chewed up by the old track, we will show you before we fit the new door, because that is worth sorting out while the opening is clear.
